Proclaiming Diversity is Our {Military} Strength
Recently leaders of our Department of Defense (DoD) and some military brass have embraced the woke ideology. The title of this piece has been repeated too often the last few years by people – some running our military – who should know better.
the DoD has conducted numerous DEI conferences for officers and DEI classes for enlisted personnel and have attempted to ingrain the woke dogma in our armed forces.
What those efforts have done is what the woke stuff does for everyone, it divides them into groups. It doesn’t take a modern general or admiral to know that historically armed forces need cohesiveness and unity to prevail. When the shooting starts soldiers fight for each other as much as for their country winning the battle and the war.
So where has DEI and CRT taken our military?
For starters, it has resulted in recruitment shortfalls and declining reenlistments.
The Army is down 40,000 soldiers, the Navy down 10,000 sailors and the Air Force is down 13,000+ over the past three years.
DEI is certainly not the only reason recruitment and retention is suffering, but it’s a major factor. The reasons put out by the Pentagon are that there a fewer Gen Z people than there are millennials, an economy that provides other options, fewer relatives that served in the military, and that Gen Z has a lower level of trust in US institutions. Current defense leaders do not mention the new, woke military. They just report that the military is more representative of the country now with special accommodations for past transgressions.
Faced with the recruitment and reenlistment problems, the current administration has now declared the decline in numbers and the missing of previously announced recruitment goals is in fact a deliberate restructuring of personnel.
Think of that scenario. If you were responsible for the US Army and set the goals for recruitment, only to miss those goals by significant numbers, then to try to cover your shortcomings by stating you really didn’t mean to set those goals, do you think your boss would buy into your claim of intentional failure? Further, wouldn’t you need to do some ‘restructuring’ just facing the reality of not having nearly as many personnel as you started with.
Believe it or not, the answer to both questions is ‘Yes.’
You can get away with failure on some important fronts if you understand that your job evaluation is currently not based on numbers, capacity or capability. It’s based on whether you embrace the woke ideology and have trained your troops under that banner.
If certain prospective personnel are turned off by wokeness, that’s their problem, not the leaders.
Lots of young people are turned off with what the military represents on many fronts these days.
They are aware they will be exposed, trained, indoctrinated and expected to act and behave like a woke person. They know Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) can result in unqualified promotions. They know they could be serving in specialty areas and working for and under a higher ranked person for which the ranking person is not qualified or ready.
They also know that after finding that women were not scoring as highly as men the military has thrown out altogether the fitness requirements for combat specialties. They know the system now allows members of the military to take extra time off from their duties to obtain tax funded sex-change surgeries, hormones, and drugs. That personnel with HIV can now serve in combat zones where the prospect of shared blood increases, ergo contamination.
Another example of how the military became woke, recently the Navy released a training video to help sailors understand the proper way of using personal pronouns—a skill Americans have traditionally mastered in grade school. The video instructs servicemembers that they need to create a “safe space for everybody” by using “inclusive language”—for instance, saying “hey everybody” instead of “hey guys.”
Long-time, seasoned, top military personnel know that diversity is not a strength in the military. That woke ideology undermines cohesiveness by emphasizing differences based on race, ethnicity, and sex.
Woke undermines leadership authority by introducing questions about whether promotion is based on merit or quota requirements
Certainly, our military has to change to keep up with a new kind of war using technology to counter the potential hacking of communications, electrical grids and weapons. Drones are becoming more and more a factor as well.
Is a woke military operating on DEI principles in the country’s best interest?
Is “diversity” more important than combat defense readiness?
I don’t think so.

This week’s trivia question is: Who did Mohammed Ali beat to win the heavyweight boxing championship? The answer to last week’s question re: the first woman inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame: Aretha Franklin. She became enshrined in the museum in 1987. She had been the ‘Queen of Soul’ for 20 years at the time and made the Billboard Hot 100 with “Respect” in 1967 and later “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me),” “Think,” and “You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman” forever cementing her in Grammy history and induction into the R&R Hall of Fame.
I love to watch the aftermath of the annual Army-Navy game. The sportsmanship exhibited again yesterday after ‘America’s Game’ shows both sides of the contest – players and cadets – recognizing they know they will soon be on the same team.
A year and a half after Daniel Penny was charged with a killing a man on a NY subway after the perpetrator threatened the lives and limbs of passengers, he was finally set free last Monday after the trial jury found him not guilty. Now and again, justice is vindicated and right triumphs over wrong. I’m just sorry that the 26-year-old former marine had to suspend his life while the Manhattan DA pursued his quest to find someone guilty of defending others and himself. Unfortunately for Perry it’s not over. He’s being sued in civil court by the father of the obviously mentally ill, lunatic.
Small business owners face penalties of $10,000 or more, even jail time, if they don’t comply with a new U.S. Treasury Department reporting requirement by year’s end. The Corporate Transparency Act, passed in 2021, created the requirement. The requisite reporting to the Treasury’s Crime Enforcement Network provides personal details about the company’s owners, including their name(s), address, date of birth, an identifying number from a government-issued document like a passport or driver’s license, and the photo used to obtain said ID. More red tape.
Speaking of red tape, President Biden’s administration has filled up the Federal Register with more pages of regulations than any other president in history, breaking President Barack Obama’s record. As of Dec. 3, this administration set a new federal record for the most Federal Register pages filled in a single year – 96,088. The number puts the administration on pace to fill more than 100,000 pages by the end of its term. The record was previously held by Obama, who, in the final year of his second term, filled 95,894 pages.
The CPI rose 2.7% in November, up from 2.6% in October. Rises in groceries and gasoline prices offset a slight decrease in housing costs. Since 2021 grocery costs are up some 24%, electricity 18+%, and housing up over 40%. Overall, inflation has taken over 19% more from the average home budget to buy the same things bought in 2020. Did you notice?
Showing her compassion, here’s an idea from an apparent economic numbskull leading a state. NY Gov. Hochul is proposing a payment by the state of $500 to any couple earning less than $300,000 to help offset the high inflation cost increases experienced by those households. So where does Hochul get such money? The legislature will take it up in January. Rational heads know the proposal doesn’t offset inflation; it would feed it and make it worse.
Clemency, that’s what the WH is calling it. During the COVID pandemic, President Biden said you wouldn’t get COVID if you got vaccinated. So he shut everything down under the pain of prison for those who ‘violated.’ 1500 of those incarcerated because of the COVID mandates had their prison terms commuted last week. Those imprisoned for what was proven to be false a long time ago, finally are free again. Clemency.
Well, can you believe it – a recognized, official organization is concerned about fairness in women’s sports. The LPGA announced a policy banning transgender women golfers who transitioned after puberty from competing in its events.
The alleged cold-blooded killer of a health insurance CEO on a NYC street was apprehended in PA last week. His background and family make him an unlikely perpetrator. Some circles are condoning and romanticizing the assassin. What happened to our culture of right and wrong?
