Critical Race Theory Becomes Government Policy

You will recall one of the first executive orders signed by President Biden was one requiring all branches of government to address ‘equity’ in the ranks.

Here’s some of what’s been happening since.

The Defense Secretary immediately established the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Its mission is the formation of “…policies and practices to develop future military leaders who represent the changing face of America.”

It means they want the military to reflect the races and skin colors making up the respective percentages they represent of the U.S. population.

Equity does not mean equality. It means quotas. If you start with the premise that America suffers from systemic racism, it also means you assume the current hierarchy of the military reflects that racism. You therefore conclude that to fix it, you must recruit, promote and/or demote/discharge people until you see the ‘proper’ numbers of races in each level of the organization. Simple, right?

How could anything ‘American’ be so wrong? Everything we currently stand for is centered on equality. Equal treatment, equal opportunity. Advancement in any organization should be dependent on the individual, his or her talent, ability, temperament, commitment to achieve and to get positive results – regardless of race or gender. How do these “equity” thinkers explain how our military became the best and strongest in the world? If ‘equity’ trumps merit, we’re driving down a wrong, un-American, racist path- and one that has little to with the military’s mission.

This ‘diversity, equity and inclusion’ stuff is all tied to critical race theory which not only assumes all whites are racists and that no other race has any racists – but requires everyone to believe that as fact.

Is our military going to a better one as a result of the work by Defense Dept.’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion? Frankly, I don’t see how. I see a decline in what we expect from our military – and that’s scary.

Understand, this stuff is not limited to the Defense Dept. It is now permeating through all sectors, agencies and departments of government. ‘Training’ has resumed for all in the Executive Branch with the expectation of total understanding, buy-in and compliance with critical race theory.

In June the Agriculture Dept. will begin forgiving loans it made – and those made by banks guaranteed by the government – for 16,000 farmers. It was part of the COVID relief legislation (The American Rescue Plan) passed and signed in March – providing $4B in debt relief for farmers. But wait! Loans will only be forgiven or paid for black, Hispanic and American Indian farmers. No white farmers, regardless of financial condition, are eligible. Equity.

But here’s the worst so far.

May 19 was the deadline for public comment to the Education Dept.’s “Proposed Priorities” on American history and civics education.

The Dept. will now start making grants to local school districts that adopt the ideology of critical race theory and Project 1619.

You will recall Project 1619 is a NY Times led program that postulates the birth of the country did not historically occur in 1776, but in 1619 when the first African slaves were unloaded in Jamestown. It purports the history of the country’s systemic racism can be traced to that year and that what we learned as history, our Constitution, subsequent laws and institutions have all been in support of racism.

It’s already happened in several major school districts around the country. It goes further. In Oregon, for example, their Dept. of Education has determined the way mathematics is taught is racist.  Quote: “White supremacy shows up in math classrooms when the focus is in getting only the right answer…” Hello?

It is heartening to see and hear that parents in some locales are fighting back at teaching this garbage to their kids. Indoctrinating our kids with critical race theory and Project 1619 is irresponsible. It ignores the truth of our history – where our country has been and where it is now.
But is it too late already?

This administration and Congressional majority not just letting it happen. They are actively promoting it with policy, legislation and our money.

Let’s all know and understand something. The African slave trade was not invented in the United States. It was imported with immigrants from several European powers of the time. Hell, many American Indian tribes had slaves. African tribes had slaves of their own and participated in the European slave trade. In was a different, sad time in history. Ancient Greeks had slaves. The Romans had slaves. Mohammed had slaves.

Did early American immigrants and early descendants have slaves also? Yes, but only in the South. Did America have a discrimination problem. Yes. And in 2021, we should learn of the determination and leap of progress we owe to the likes of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and others who have positively influenced ‘equality’ in our country. Are we where we want to be? No, there’s still acceptance and assimilation margins which deserve attention. Is ‘equity’ as it’s being defined and implemented the answer. No. It actually makes race a politized and divisive issue which not only solves nothing but makes it worse – regressive. Skin color should not matter in the United States of America – now or ever again.

Teaching and promoting systemic racism is a pox. Let’s get vaccinated for it, take our masks off and fight it.

********

Have a great and prosperous week.

Hug somebody.

SPIDER Bites

The State Dept. encouraged embassies and consulates to externally display flags and banners showing support for Black Lives Matter last Tuesday, the one-year anniversary of Geo. Floyd’s death. The official memo states showing interest in racial equity as the objective. A USA Today poll in March showed trust in Black Lives Matter had fallen to 50% for all races combined – while trust in local police and law enforcement has risen to 69%. Regardless, isn’t BLM a political organization?

Speaking of polls, another conducted by Gallop looked at professional sports and the impact of players and teams exhibiting support for Black Lives Matter. Americans who have a positive view of pro sports dropped from 45 percent in August 2019 to 30 percent a year later. The number of citizens who had a negative view shot up from 25 percent to 40 percent. Support by the 55 and older voters diminished from slightly positive to 23 points negative. The nosedive in the way Americans view the ‘pros’ happened in every category, men and women, whites and nonwhites. I wonder if those geniuses have figured out that sports and politics don’t mix with fans.

Just remembering. Of the unnecessary monies appropriated in the COVID relief legislation (American Rescue Plan) that passed in March, $350B was allocated to the states and territories. That money was distributed on the basis of the state’s population and unemployment rate during the final quarter of 2020. So, for example, NY received $22B with a rate of 8.2%, while Florida – with 2 million more residents – received $8.8B with an unemployment rate of 6.1% for the period. CA got $26B. See, it paid to be a Democrat. Frankly, Congress had no business giving any state this largess along with the other gigantic, inflationary handouts.

President Biden reopened the investigation he had shut down re: the possibility COVID-19 came from a bioscience/coronavirus lab in Wuhan, China. Thank you, Wall Street Journal.

Friday President Biden officially announced a fiscal 2022 budget of $6T which even with proposed tax increases would ensure a minimum deficit of $1T annually for the foreseeable future. Today our national debt exceeds $28T and is growing. What are we leaving for the next generations to deal with?
